Complaints about lawyers
If you are dissatisfied with a member of the Bar Association, you can make a complaint to the Bar Association’s Disciplinary Committee.
All members of the Swedish Bar Association must follow the professional and ethical standards of the legal profession. The Bar Association’s Code of Conduct is a codification of these standards.
If you are dissatisfied with a member, you may write to the Bar Assocation to make a complaint. The complaint must be made in writing, and must be signed. Complaints against members are dealt with by the Bar Association’s Disciplinary Committee. Detailed information on the disciplinary procedure and instructions on how to make a complaint are found in the document The supervisory role of the Swedish Bar Association.
If you think that a lawyer’ bill is too high, and you cannot resolve the issue with the lawyer, that dispute will in most cases be settled in court. Fees concerning members’ engagements for clients started before 1 January 2002 may be subject to fee review by special arbitration tribunals set up by the Bar Association. More information is found in the document Information concerning review of a lawyer’s final invoice.
